Our Yoga Classes
"Your yoga practice is not so much about tying yourself in knots, as unraveling your potential..."
Our classes are small, and we give you support and feedback, so you understand what you are doing. The yoga studio is a comfortable, safe environment, with the same teachers each week. The teacher gets to know you well, and can help to motivate & encourage you on your yoga journey.
In the first part of the class, students have their own individualised programs. Individual programs are used because everyone has a different body and holds tension in different places. Your program is a series of drawn pictures with descriptions to prompt you how to do your poses. The teacher initially takes you through your program, and checks in with you each week to clarify or adapt your practice. Periodically, your program is reviewed as your needs change.
In the second part of the class we come together to do 'Salutes to the Sun'. The Salutes are a dynamic set of postures that enhance the cardiovascular system. There are a number of Salutes, from easy to challenging. You can choose to stay with the easier versions, or develop your practice and try the stronger ones.
Next, your yoga teacher will choose from the thousands of different yoga postures. The class may focus on developing flexibility, strength, balance, or core activation. We show you how to activate muscles around a joint complex to protect the joints (bandha), and muscles that engage the pelvic floor for core strength. We teach how to stand, sit and move with ease and comfort.

Throughout the class is a gentle reminder to stay present, breathe naturally and work within your limits, without pushing or pain. This means your yoga class will bring results more quickly, safely and easily. As you learn to apply right effort or effortless effort, you will look forward to your yoga practice because it helps you feel good!
When you begin to concentrate on your body, you become aware of the thoughts and feelings that arise. You are encouraged to be in the present moment, by letting go of thoughts or developing the skill of the witness.
At the end of the class is a guided relaxation, which is many students' favourite part of the class. Relaxation is a skill that needs to be learnt, and practiced regularly, to reduce the tension that leads to headaches, stiff muscles and locked up spines. But more importantly, it may help reduce blood pressure, encourage circulation, enhance immunity and support the health of the cardiovascular system.
Yoga is an empowering practice. It is a journey of self discovery. We have found that yoga students eventually feel confident to do their individual practice at home, as they become well versed in a group of postures relevant and accessible for them.
